What is the role?
Senior Industrial/Product Design Engineer to work as part of a multidisciplinary R&D Function. This role is ideal for a designer with a proven ability to transform complex clinical needs into compelling product concepts for medical devices. They will be responsible for exploring and communicating early-stage product directions using a variety of tools, including sketches, illustrations, foam models, and skeleton CAD. They will be responsible for collaborating on the detailed design and testing of shortlisted directions and concepts. Their work will have a direct impact on shaping the future of our products and influencing decisions across R&D, Engineering, and Clinical functions.
What are the key responsibilities?
As part of the Mechanical Design Engineering team, you will be working on product design & development projects related to new and existing product ranges.
• Concept Development: Explore and evaluate multiple product directions and architectures based on user needs, technical constraints, and clinical workflow. Identify highimpact concept opportunities and champion innovative design strategies.
• Design Communication & Visualization: Rapidly visualize ideas through hand sketches, illustrations, storyboards, and product narratives. Create physical models such as foam mockups and ergonomic rigs to support form exploration and usability testing
• Early CAD Exploration: develop skeleton CAD models to investigate internal layout, component packaging, and mechanical feasibility. Collaborate with engineers to iterate on early-stage design directions.
• User-Centered Design & Research Support:Collaborate with Human Factors Engineering to understand real-world challenges. Integrate user feedback into iterative concept development cycles.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration:Engage with Clinical, R&D, Regulatory, and Marketing teams to align concept development with program goals. Present and defend design rationale to multidisciplinary stakeholders.
• Excellent communication skills, including writing and presenting concise technical reports.
• Effective liaison with, and support of, other in-house departments as necessary.
• Provide regular updates on work, both formally and informally.
• Other activities as directed by their Supervisor
What education and experience are required?
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering (with strong design focus), or a related field.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated track record of shaping early-stage product strategies and communicating design intent across various mediums.
• Portfolio showcasing concept exploration, ideation processes, form development, and visual storytelling
What key skills will make you great at the role?
Technical Skills
• Strong proficiency in hand sketching, 2D illustration, and storytelling through design. Advanced CAD modeling skills (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo) with the ability to create quick skeleton layouts. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and 3D rendering software (e.g., KeyShot).Skilled in physical prototyping: foam modeling, appearance models, and ergonomic rigs.
Design Thinking
• Exceptional conceptual thinking and ideation abilities. Ability to distill ambiguous problems into clearly articulated design opportunities. Solid understanding of user-centered design and ergonomics, particularly in clinical environments.
Collaboration & Communication
• Excellent interpersonal skills; comfortable working across disciplines.Strong verbal and visual communication for presentations and cross reviews.Ability to take initiative, lead design discussions, and operate in early-phase ambiguity.Familiarity with medical design standards (e.g., ISO 13485) would be an advantage.
