What is the role? 
This is a critical field-based role acting as the non-promotional scientific and medical lead for Aerogen across the EMEA region. Based in France or Spain, the Lead Medical Science Liaison will work across multiple EMEA geographies with key external stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, payors and regulators, to support the effective and appropriate utilisation of Aerogen's existing and new product portfolio and the generation and communication of scientific and medical evidence. 

The role combines the operational activities of a regional MSL with leadership and management responsibilities for the EMEA MSL team. You will provide insight and training support for internal stakeholders and work as a core member of the global Medical Affairs team and regional cross-functional teams. You will be expected to operate effectively in a remote environment, take initiative and drive execution without daily supervision. 

What are the key responsibilities? 
Medical Affairs Strategy Development and Execution 
• Work with the global Medical Affairs team and align with functional stakeholders, including Commercial Territory teams, to develop an annual medical territory and regional strategic and operational plan. 
• Integrate the global Medical Affairs strategy with country- and region-specific priorities and execution plans. 
• Define a clear quarterly breakdown of strategy and activities, including KPIs and allocation of time and budget investment. 

KOL Engagement and Relationship Management 
• Identify and proactively engage key opinion leaders, healthcare professionals and representatives of respiratory professional specialty groups across EMEA. 
• Develop and maintain meaningful professional relationships with physicians, including pulmonologists, intensivists and respiratory specialists. 
• Support strategically relevant evidence generation, advisory boards, peer-to-peer education, symposia, workshops, webinars and wider scientific exchange. 
• Support the development of relevant regional, national and local guidelines, consensus statements and protocols. 

Scientific Exchange 
• Develop and execute an effective medical and scientific communication cascade, including credible HCP speaker panels and evidence-based peer-to-peer discussions. 
• Work with selected KOL speakers on content and materials, including speaker training and presentation-skills development where required. 
• Personally lead medical science exchange programmes, including workshops, standalone events, smaller-group education and one-to-one meetings. 
• Act as the local medical representative in responding to unsolicited requests for information, including queries relating to off-label use of Aerogen products. 
• Represent Aerogen in payor and managed-care discussions, including with purchasing, formulary and institutional decision-makers, where required. 
• Collaborate with regional and local Commercial teams in the delivery of appropriate medical and scientific content while maintaining scientific integrity and compliance. 

Supporting Evidence Generation and Scientific Collaboration 
• Collaborate with regional and national KOLs to align strategically valuable evidence-generation plans and develop proposals for research roadmaps, including RCT, RWE, IIT and survey methodologies. 
• Engage the global team to align regional and national evidence plans with the global programme and support protocol development with KOL and HCP research teams. 
• Support local research logistics, including funding approval, ethical approval documentation and provision of product trial materials. 
• Support compliant local study execution and collaborate with global evidence and clinical teams on timely study reporting, abstracts, manuscripts and peer-reviewed publication. 

Leadership Responsibilities 
• Lead, mentor and develop the EMEA team of MSLs to achieve individual and team objectives and drive effective, consistent performance. 
• Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback and implement individual development plans. 
• Coordinate regional medical excellence training to support MSL competency, consistency and structured KPI reporting. 
• Build and maintain strong relationships for the EMEA MSL team with cross-functional stakeholders, including Commercial, R&D and Regulatory teams. 

Training, Insights and Competitive Intelligence 
• Provide training and support for internal teams, including Commercial, on current medical and scientific evidence and the management of customer queries. 
• Collect and communicate medical insights and feedback from scientific exchange to inform current product strategies and new product development. 
• Attend relevant national, regional and local conferences, support medical and scientific activities, engage KOLs and provide high-quality feedback on trends, evidence and competitive insights. 

Innovation, Collaboration and Compliance 
• Identify new ways to improve the effectiveness and impact of MSL customer-engagement activities and lead appropriate regional initiatives. 
• Collaborate as part of the global Medical Affairs team, share best practices and adopt effective new ways of working. 
• Ensure effective reporting across Medical Affairs and other functions, aligned to agreed KPIs, activity plans and priorities. 
• Complete all required training, documentation, expense reporting and administrative responsibilities. 
• Ensure compliance with Aerogen policies and external regulatory requirements, and maintain current scientific and regulatory expertise. 

What education and experience are required? 
• Minimum of an MSc; advanced scientific training and academic credentials, generally consisting of a PhD, MD or PharmD, are preferred. 
• 4-6+ years of experience as an MSL, including strong leadership experience, preferably within respiratory medical devices. 
• Strong knowledge of respiratory diseases, treatments and the medical device industry. 
• Prior experience working remotely across multiple countries and leading or managing remote teams.

• Experience in clinical care, peer-reviewed publication, scientific conference presentation or investigator-initiated clinical trials is advantageous. 
• Conversant with Good Clinical Practice. 

Environmental Conditions 
• This is a field-based role based in France or Spain, covering the EMEA region, with a minimum expected time in the field of 60%, rising to 80% depending on project development and execution-support activities. 
• The role will involve frequent domestic and some international travel across EMEA. 
• The role may involve work from a home office, other typical office environments, laboratories and hospital clinical environments. 
• Changing priorities and multiple projects with tight deadlines may occasionally require work outside standard hours.
