Galway Women’s FC is delighted to announce a new educational partnership with Galway based med-tech company Aerogen.

With a company purpose of improving respiratory patient outcomes worldwide, innovation and creativity are at the core of every project in Aerogen, with a strong emphasis placed on continuous development of skills and expertise within the company. These values, along with Aerogen’s commitment to excellence, align deeply with the club’s values of knowledge and development.

This year’s scholarship has been awarded to Becky Walsh who is undertaking further study this year in the area of applied sports psychology. Becky, who boasts a decorated sporting career to date, returned to Galway Women’s FC earlier this season and has already had a significant impact both on and off the field.

A multi-talented athlete, she has represented Galway in GAA at every age group, from under 12 to senior level. Her GAA club achievements include an Intermediate All Ireland championship while representing Clontarf and she was named 2019 Club Player of the Year along the way.

Her achievements on the soccer pitch across local club, Women’s National League (WNL) and internationally, are lengthy; beginning as Salthill Devon underage star and going on to captain Ireland at under 15, under 17 and under 19 level. Becky represented Galway District League in their Champion’s League pursuits in 2008 (under manager Stephen Lally, who also returned to the side this year) before playing for Galway Women’s FC in their inaugural WNL season. Her return this year has been a massive boost to the club.

A focus on high performance is a key component of club strategy and Aerogen’s support in this area will have a long lasting impact across all of our teams. Becky, who has worked and volunteered in the area of mental health for over five years, is conscious of this:

Through this work experience, I feel that I have developed soft counselling skills, compassion and a greater awareness of the challenges that people face behind closed doors. I am hugely passionate about the study of performance coaching and the benefits of structured sports psychology interventions, which I know can most definitely help to close the gap between ‘professional’ and ‘amateur’ execution on the big days. Focusing on this area will be crucial in realising our club ambitions to be successful in national and European football in the coming years. I intend to invest any knowledge acquired back into our club, across all of our age groups. I’d like to express my gratitude to Aerogen for their support of both myself and Galway Women’s FC; their help is invaluable. I look forward to working closely with Aerogen along my journey.

We are delighted to partner with Galway Women’s FC for this scholarship. Supporting local charities and clubs is something we place a lot of importance on in Aerogen. Galway Women’s FC is a great fit for us and we would like to wish Becky and the rest of the team the best of luck over the coming year.
