IMDA Excellence Award 2008
In 2008 Aerogen was awarded the Irish Medical Device Association (IMDA) Excellence Award for Innovation Research, Development and Commercialisation of the Aeroneb Solo nebulizer. Aerogen has incorporated micropump technology, into its range of nebulisers through the use of its patented OnQ™ aerosol generator with application in superior pulmonary drug delivery devices. This technology cost over $50M to develop.
The OnQ™ Technology produces aerosol particle sizes 1/10 of the diameter of a human hair. This particle size range allows for deep lung deposition to the alveoli. The Aeroneb Solo is the world's first single patient use high performance nebuliser for aerosolised medication in the critical care sector. Used on life support ventilators – the Aeroneb Solo allows clinicians to deliver a wide range of life saving drug treatments directly targeted to the lung. It is unique in that it offers both continuous and intermittent nebulisation, does not require additional airflow and can be refilled without interrupting ventilation in an acute care setting.
