IMDA Gold Award Winners 2009

Aerogen was the recipient of the Gold Award for Skills and Knowledge from the Irish Medical Device Association in 2009. This was in recognition of the work completed on the Aerogen OnQ technology.
The Skills and Knowledge project provided Aerogen staff with the in-house tools, techniques and specialist technological expertise to fully understand the scientific principles in the performance and manufacture of an electroformed aperture plate that is key to forming the unique aerosol that makes the product such a worldwide success.
The State provided Scientific Research and training programmes such as Research vouchers, Industrial/University partnership feasibility (Trinity College Dublin, University of Limerick, NUIG, Athlone Institute of Technology), full partnership programme, Enterprise Ireland funding and FAS scholarships were fundamental to facilitating the performance understanding and the development of volume production of Aerogen’s unique core technology.
The success of the project is reflected in the fact that it has reduced the cost of the aperture plate and increased annual capacity from 100,000 to 4m. This increased capacity and lower cost base has opened up newer business opportunities for the company in such market areas as Surgical, Ophthalmic, and different non-invasive ventilation & supplemental oxygen therapies. Each of these opportunities potentially represents multi million Euro sales for Aerogen in new business.
